Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76, is our Pope and selected the name Francis.
He spent nearly his entire career at home in Argentina, overseeing churches and shoe-leather priests. The archbishop of Buenos Aires reportedly received the second-most votes after Joseph Ratzinger in the 2005 Papal election, and he has long specialized in the kind of pastoral work that some say is an essential skill for today's Pope. In a lifetime of teaching and leading priests in Latin America, which has the largest share of the world's Catholics, Cardinal Bergoglio showed a keen political sensibility as well as the kind of self-effacing humility that fellow cardinals value highly. Bergoglio is known for modernizing an Argentine church that had been among the most conservative in Latin America.
In 1973 he made his profession head of the San Miguel Church 1986. Spent some time in Germany working on his thesis. He was Bishop of Buenos Aires. He has been a great chancelor and head of the church in Argentina.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: Good evening. As you know, the duty of the conclave was to appoint a bishop of Rome and it seems to me that my brother Cardinals have chosen one that is from far away... here I am. I want to thank you for your kind embrace... pray for our emeritas Bishop Benedict XVI let us pray all of us together so that he is blessed by the Lord. Our Father, Hail Mary. Glory Be.
Let us begin this journey together...a journey of friendship love, trust, and faith. Let us always pray for one another and pray for the whole world - let us have a big brotherhood .... this journey with my vicar Cardinals.
