50th Anniversary of St. Pio is September 23, 2018
St. Pio was born in 1887 in southern Italy to peasant farmers. He joined the Capuchin Friars at age 15 and was ordained in 1910. Padre Pio is known as the first priest to receive the stigmata, the five wounds of Christ’s Passion. Because of his spiritual insight and holiness, thousands came to him seeking counsel. He had a special devotion to the Eucharist and the Blessed Virgin. More than a hundred thousand people attended his funeral in 1968. St. Padre Pio was canonized by Pope John Paul II on June 16, 2002.
