St. Apollonia was a victim of the anti-Christian disturbances of Alexandria towards the end of the reign of Emperor Philip the Arabian. According to the bishop of Antioch, a mob seized the elderly Apollonia, broke her teeth and threatened to burn her alive, whereupon she leapt into the fire and was consumed.
The St. Apollonia Sterling Silver Medal honors her as the Patron Saint of dentists. St. Apollonia’s Feast Day is February 9.
