St. James the Apostle witnessed several miracles of Jesus, including the dead woman being raised to life in the house of Jairus. He was taken up the mountain with Peter and John and saw Jesus transfigured. According to St. Paul in 1 Cor 15:7, Jesus appeared to James after the Resurrection.
St. James became a prominent leader among the Nazarenes in Jerusalem with St. Peter. In some historical writings, James was the first bishop of Jerusalem. He was put to death by the Sanhedrin about the year 62. St. James is the attributed author of a number of apocryphal writings and of the New Testament Epistle of James.
