St. Monica was born about 332 in North Africa. She married Patricius, a violent pagan, bearing his children, Augustine, Navigius, and Perpetua. In 371, Patricius became a Christian and died a year later. St. Monica prayed constantly for Augustine’s conversion, and finally in 386 in Milan, she saw him baptized. As she was preparing to return to Africa, St. Monica died in 387.

The St. Monica Sterling Silver Medal honors her as the Patron Saint of married women and difficult marriages. Her Feast Day is August 27.
