St. Peregrine, born in Forli, Italy, in 1260, was active in politics as a member of the anti-papal party. One time during a public meeting, Peregrine became so upset that he struck St. Philip Benizi, the Pope’s representative, in the face. But when Philip forgave him, Peregrine was so moved that he repented and became Catholic. He joined the Servites. Peregrine suffered from cancer of the foot until he was miraculously cured after a vision.

The St. Peregrine Sterling Silver Medal honors him as the Patron Saint against cancer. His Feast Day is May 1.
