What Is a Scapular Medal? A scapular medal, a small metal medallion, is a symbol of the Roman Catholic faith. It is a spiritual "descendant" of the cloth scapular. The scapular medal must bear the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the "right" side; and a representation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God on the obverse side - this is usually Our Lady of Mount Carmel. It can be made of any kind of metal.
Gifted in a blue velour clam shell jewelry box.
"The month of June is traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the greatest human expression of divine love. In fact, last Friday we celebrated the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and this feast sets the tone for the entire month. Popular piety highly values symbols, and the Heart of Jesus is the ultimate symbol of God's mercy. But it is not an imaginary symbol; it is a real symbol which represents the center, the source from which salvation flowed for all of humanity."
--Pope Francis Angelus address, Sunday, June 9, 2013
The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, or the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a solemnity in the Roman Catholic Church liturgical calendar. The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is 19 days after Pentecost Sunday, so it falls on a Friday. The earliest date possible is May 29th, as it occurred in 1818 and will occur in 2285!
