St. Anthony of Padua was the son of a knight of the court of King Alfonso II. In 1221, he joined the Franciscans and went on a mission to Morocco but soon returned because of ill health. Settling in Padua, he reformed the city and aided the poor. Anthony died at a Poor Clare Convent on June 13, 1231. He is often pictured holding the Christ Child because of a vision he had seeing the Child in brilliant rays of light clinging with both arms around Anthony’s neck. Gifted in a blue velour clam shell jewelry box.
