St. Brigid, also known as Brigid of Kildare, was born in Faughart, Ireland, circa 450. She received the veil and then followed St. Mel to Meath in 468, where she founded a double monastery in Kildare. She founded an art school that became famous for illuminated manuscripts, especially the Book of Kildare.

The St. Brigid Sterling Silver Medal honors her as the Patron Saint of infants and Ireland. Her Feast Day is February 1.
