St. Edward, the son of King St. Edgar the Peaceful, was baptized by St. Dunstan. He inherited the throne at the age of thirteen but was murdered only a few years later by his stepmother, so that her son, Ethelred II, could become king. Another likely reason was St. Edward’s support of the monastic movement which Ethelred opposed.
The St. Edward Sterling Silver Medal honors him as a Martyr. His Feast Day is March 18.
