St. Genesius was a martyred stage actor. According to custom, he was performing before Emperor Diocletian in Rome. In a scene depicting the baptism of a Christian, Genesius suddenly announced that he accepted Christ. The emperor was so enraged that he had St. Genesius tortured and beheaded.

In spite of this tradition being suspect, the St. Genesius Sterling Silver Medal honors him as the Patron Saint of actors and comedians. His Feast Day is August 25.
