St. Gerard Majella, born in Muro, Italy, in 1726, was the son of a tailor and worked for a time as a servant to a bishop. He opened a tailor shop in 1745, but three years later, he became a Redemptorist, professing his vows with St. Alphonsus Liguori. St. Gerard was a mystic known for the gifts of bilocation, prophecies, and visions. He was falsely accused of improprieties, but later, the female accuser admitted that she had lied. St. Gerard died of consumption and was canonized in 1904.
The St. Gerard Sterling Silver Medal honors him as the Patron Saint of expectant mothers. His Feast Day is October 16.
