St. Joshua was an Old Testament figure who lived to be 110. There was no such thing as canonization in those days, but he is considered to be a saint since he served Moses through instruction by God.
God told Moses to designate Joshua to be the next leader of the Israelites. Joshua led them to the promised land, conquered it, and distributed the land to the twelve tribes of Israel. The Book of Joshua recounts his victories at Jericho and other places. Joshua’s name in Hebrew means “YAHWEH is Salvation”.
The St. Joshua Sterling Silver Medal honors him as the Patron Saint of those named Joshua.
