St. Lucy, born in Syracuse, Sicily, was of noble Roman blood. She was arrested for being a Christian during the reign of Emperor Diocletian and was tortured with burning and stabbing. There are many legends about St. Lucy, including one that says Diocletian had her eyes torn out, and they were miraculously restored. Also, since her name means “light”, she is invoked by sufferers of eye problems. Her relics are preserved in Venice and were venerated by Pope John XXIII.

The St. Lucy Sterling Pewter honors her as the Patron Saint of eye diseases and Braille. Her Feast Day is December 13.
