St. Maria Goretti, the daughter of a farmer, was born in 1890 in Corinaldo, Italy. Later, when the family moved, a young man named Alexander Serenelli, who lived in the same house, tried to seduce her. When Maria refused him, he stabbed her repeatedly. He was arrested for the murder, and when he was imprisoned, he experienced a vision of her.

Maria was credited with about forty miracles after her death. She was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1950 with Alexander attending.

The St. Maria Goretti Sterling Silver Patron Saint Medal honors her as the Patron Saint of teenage girls and of purity. Her Feast Day is July 6.
