St. Thomas Aquinas was born of noble parents in 1226 and placed in the care of Benedictines.  At the age of seventeen, he chose to enter the Order of St. Dominic despite opposition of his family.  He studied theology and received his doctorate in 1257.  His writings on Christian doctrine are well known, the most famous being Summa Theologiae.  St. Thomas Aquinas died in 1274 and was canonized by Pope John XXII in 1323.

The St. Thomas Pewter Medal honors him as the Patron Saint of Catholic schools and students.  St. Thomas Aquinas Feast Day is January 28.
