To Know Him (Vol. II) by Paul A. Duffner, O.P. is a spiritually enlightening book of which he writes:
On the day of the Resurrection, two of the disciples of Jesus were walking toward the town of Emmaus sorrowfully discussing His passion and death. Jesus – whom they did not recognize – joined them on the way, and asked them what they were discussing. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they said, “who was a prophet, mighty in work and word before God. We hoped that it was he that should have redeemed Israel” (Lk. 24:21).
Jesus chided them for their lack of faith. “Should not Christ have suffered these things and so enter into His glory.” And He explained how all this was foretold by the prophets.
As they drew near their destination, they invited Jesus to dine with them. During their meal, Jesus broke the bread, and immediately disappeared from their; and they recognized that it was the Lord. Recalling this later to the other disciples, they explained how they recognized Him in the breaking of the bread.
