St. Louis de Montfort was born in France in 1673. He was educated in Rennes, ordained there in 1700, and became a hospital chaplain in Poitiers. The Daughters of Divine Wisdom was the name of his congregation. Later, when Louis went to Rome, Pope Clement XI appointed him as a missionary apostolic. Louis is known for his devotion to the Blessed Virgin and to the Rosary. He founded the Missionaries of the Company of Mary and wrote True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin. He died in 1716 and was canonized in 1947 by Pope Pius XII.

The St. Louis Sterling Silver Medal honors him as the Patron Saint of preachers. His Feast Day is April 28.
